We have some very busy days the next couple of weeks before Christmas break!!
Monday: Native American projects are due. That includes the model home, the 2-3 minute presentation for the class, and the map of the area where the tribe was located.
Tuesday: We will be presenting our projects to the other classes. Parents are welcome to come at 2:15 on Tuesday. If that time doesn't work for you, please email me, so you can find other time to come when we are present to other classes.
Wednesday: There are a couple more presentations to other classes.
Thursday: We will be practicing for our Christmas program!!
Friday: We will have a unit 14 spelling test, and we will have more practice for the Christmas program.
**5th grades have been working extremely hard at practicing for the Christmas program. We are working on memorizing lines, and some of the words to our songs. Please feel free to "quiz" them at home to see if they know their lines and the lyrics! :o)

~There will be a Social Studies test on Monday December 15th
~The Christmas program is on Tuesday, December 16th at 1:00 & 6:30

Native American Model Homes
If you would like to come and view all of the Native American Model homes that the 5th grade students are working on, you may come on Tuesday, December 9th from 2:15 to 2:45. The 5th graders are looking forward to presenting their tribes to you. If this time doesn't work for you, please e-mail me hvergin@nativitymary.org, and I would be happy to give you a list of other times that are available for you to come in!

Reminders and Information
Welcome to the long weekend!! We had a very busy short week in 5th grade, so there are some things that I want to update you on...
1. I sent home the Native American model home requirements today. Every student got a copy, however, I have also posted it on this blog. Click on the links below to download the documents...
2. I have created new book requirements for the 2nd trimester. The 5th graders still have to read three independent books, but they have new genres to choose from. The new book reading requirements and due dates can be accessed by clicking here, or they are under the "Reading Requirements" page on the blog.
3. I also sent home the spelling list for next week. The test is on unit 13, and will be on Friday. You can access the list by clicking here.

Week of 11/10
For next week:
1. We are going to a Veteran's Day Memorial at Traxler park on Tuesday. There are still a few missing permission slips, so please be sure you have sent one back.
2. The rough draft for the Native American research project is due on Tuesday. The students are graded on the following report content:
___/5 The introduction identifies the main ideas and has a
beginning that catches the reader’s
interest.
___/5 The report is organized in paragraphs by topics/main
ideas
___/5 Topics/main ideas are supported by facts and details
___/5 The writer paraphrased the information in his or her
own words or used direct

**every student received a copy of the full rubric at the beginning of the research project.

4. There is a chapter 4 Religion test and a Unit 11 Spelling test on Friday

2. The Final Draft for Social Studies is due on Tuesday 11/18
2. There is no school Mass on Wednesday, November 19th
3. There is a Cluster Mass at St. William's School on Friday, November 21st

Reminders!
This week:
1. There is NO spelling test this week
2. We will be decorating pumpkins with our 2nd grade prayer partners tomorrow. There is no need to send any supplies to decorate pumpkins, as I have a lot of craft supplies that we can use for decorating.
3. Tomorrow is also "Mix it Up" at lunch day, which is put on by student council. We will will be eating lunch and going out to recess together as a school.
4. 5th graders will be able to dress up for Halloween on Wednesday. They be able to stay in their costumes all day. Please remember that the costumes need to school appropriate and safe for them to wear at school. No masks, nothing too scary/violent, no high heels or backless shoes. Most students have already asked me if they had questions about their costumes.
5. We will be watching "Holes" in class on Wednesday. Since it has a PG rating, I will need you to sign the permission slip that I sent home in order for your 5th grader to be able to watch the movie.
6. Conferences are are Wednesday from 4-8 and Thursday from 8-12. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there!
